Tips To Help You Keep Your House Show-Ready When Selling

Posted on: 21 January 2019

Living in a house causes messes and can leave a house dirty, yet people who are selling their homes must try to keep their homes clean, tidy, and neat while their homes are listed for sale. If you are preparing to list your home, you will need to find ways to keep your house show-ready, so that you are prepared for all showings on your house, even if they are last-minute requests, and here are three good ways you can do this.

Get rid of things

The easiest way to keep a home show-ready is by eliminating a lot of stuff from the home. A home that is packed to the rim with "stuff" will be much harder to clean and maintain than a home that is somewhat empty. While you do not want the home to look completely empty and vacant, you should aim to make it less cluttered and full. A good way to do this is by throwing things away, donating things, selling things, or moving things to a storage unit. If you have fewer things to keep in place each day, keeping up with the housework will be so much simpler for you.

Deep clean once a week

Secondly, you should aim to deep clean your home at least once a week from the time you list the home until you sell it. Cleaning it thoroughly each week will keep the house much cleaner all week long and will make preparing for showings less time-consuming and difficult.

Prepare a last-minute pickup plan

The other thing you should do is create a last-minute pickup plan. There may be times when your agent notifies you about showings several days in advance, but there are other times when the agent may call and ask for a showing one hour from now. To make sure you are always ready for every showing, having a last-minute pickup plan can be helpful. This plan should state the main areas to focus on right before showings, and it should create a list of things to do just before you leave. For example, you might want to make sure there are no dishes in the sink and that the shower curtains are pulled closed. These two goals can make a home look more appealing but typically do not take a lot of time to do.

It is hard to live in a house and keep it perfect, but you will need to aim to keep it as clean as possible while trying to sell it. Your real estate agent might be able to give you more tips to help you sell your home.
