How To Get Ready For Putting Your Home On The Real Estate Market

Posted on: 10 January 2019

Have you decided that it's time to sell your home and you want your real estate agent to put it on the market? If so, they may have some recommendations for things to do before buyers can start viewing the home and making offers. Here are four things you can do to get your home ready for those looking at houses for sale.

Get A Home Inspection

When a potential buyer has an offer accepted on a home, it is common to let them do a home inspection to make sure that the house is in good condition and doesn't have anything wrong with it. If there are things wrong, it is likely that the buyers are going to ask for concessions to help cover the costs of these surprise repairs that they are learning about during the inspection.

Don't get caught off guard with surprises that the buyer will find during the inspection. Have your own home inspection done to find all the problems, and start fixing things that are going to be red flags for a buyer.

Touch Up The Paint

There are more than likely notable problems with the walls of your home in terms of the paint job. It either has years of wear and tear that you've gotten used to, such as scratches and scuff marks that you've been looking at for a long time. You may also have some bold color choices that you love, but stand out in a bad way to anyone that is touring your home.

Now is the time to give the walls a fresh coat of paint where it is necessary, and fix visible damage. If you have bold colors, replace them with something neutral for the space. Your goal will be to prevent the buyers from seeing simple cosmetic problems that they focus on when touring the home.

Remove Personal Items

You will want to do a sweep of your home and start taking down personal items that let people know who is currently living in the home. This includes your family portraits that are hanging on the wall. While it may seem a bit silly, you want to prevent a blank canvas to a buyer and make them feel like your home could become their home. You do not want them to feel like they are moving into someone else's home by displaying personal items throughout the entire home. Just slip some generic prints in front of those family photos while the house is on the market.
