Move-In Checklist To Prepare When Buying A House

Posted on: 25 December 2018

If you just sold your home and are shopping for a new one, not only will you have to find a house to buy, but you will also have to prepare for buying a house and make a plan for what will occur when you close on the house. To do this, you can use the following move-in checklist to help you create your own list of things to do to help you prepare to move into a new house.

Plan for moving out of the house you are in

One of the things you will have to prepare for is all the steps involved with moving out of your current home. This may mean cleaning the house, packing up everything you own, shutting off the utilities, forwarding your mail, and much more. You should make a list of everything you will need to do when moving out so that you do not forget anything.

Schedule the utilities

When moving, you will need to find out what utility companies you will need to use for your new place, and you will need to call them to schedule hookup services. This may include water, sewer, gas, electric, garbage pickup, Internet services, and cable TV. It can take time to determine which companies to use and time to make these calls, so you should plan plenty of time to do these things.

Create a list of minor tasks to complete when moving in

You should also create a list of any minor tasks you know you will need to complete once you take possession of the home. For example, do you want to get the locks changed before you start moving your things into the home? Will you need to deep-clean the house before you move in? Does the house need any repairs before you move in? Make sure you write each thing down on a list, simply to make sure you handle each of these steps.

Prepare for the move

Preparing for the actual move is another huge step in this process, and you should create a list and plan for this. If necessary, hire a moving company for help, and make sure you gather enough boxes to pack your things.

Following these tips will help you know what to put on your own move-in checklist. If you would like to start seeing homes for sale, you should contact a real estate agent for assistance.
